The immigrant Student´s Voice: Perspectives on Vocational Education and Training and Labor Market in Finland

Project description

The project seeks to establish factors that boost or hinder the enrolment phase, the study phase and the transition to employment phase of immigrant students. The research data includes students and teacher interviews at the research institutions of the project, register data of educational institutions and Statistics Finland. Research and legislative reviews serve as background material for the research.

As results, transparent advancement of studies and the opportunity to participate in language and preparatory studies in the same educational institution in parallel with other studies help students to transfer to vocational education and training. At the individual and family level, support from the family and friends booster the completion of a vocational qualification.

Target groups

Migrant students in vocational education and training (VET) and in the Universities of Applied Sciences. Teachers in VET-sector, who works with the immigrant students.
