News | 28.05.2025
A warm-hearted TeamOmnia celebration was held at Kirkkokatu on May 27, highlighting student achievements during the 2024–2025 academic year.

The event brought together athletes, Taitaja2025 competitors, and students who participated in the SAKUstars cultural competitions. Each of them demonstrated how passion, dedication, and the support of a community can lead to remarkable accomplishments.

The festive atmosphere in the Kirkkokatu assembly hall was one of excitement and pride. The program featured performances from SAKUstars participants and joyful reunions. The past school year was exceptionally successful for TeamOmnia, with the team earning more medals and honorable mentions in both SAKUstars and Taitaja competitions than ever before.

Coaches and other key contributors were also in attendance, receiving well-deserved recognition for their role in enabling the students’ success.

A Shower of Medals in Sports

During the academic year, Omnia students earned an impressive 12 gold, 6 silver, and 5 bronze medals in various sports disciplines. The achievements spanned both individual and team performances, including submission wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, judo, trampoline gymnastics, synchronized skating, floorball, and ice hockey.

Notable accomplishments included Artur Puskin’s triple championship in combat sports, the World Championship gold medal of Helsinki Rockettes in synchronized skating, and numerous junior championship wins in team sports.

“This year, you’ve shown that with determination and commitment, it’s possible to succeed in sports while also making meaningful progress in your studies,” encouraged Petra Sillanpää, Head of the Sports Education Program.

Vocational Excellence at Taitaja2025

The spring Taitaja2025 vocational skills competition brought wide-ranging success for Omnia students. Held in Turku, the competition saw Omnia win 5 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze medal. In addition, students received recognition for their entrepreneurial ideas.

As one of the largest teams in Turku, TeamOmnia showcased talent across various fields. For many participants, the journey was not only a chance to demonstrate their skills but also an opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery.

“Winning medals is a great achievement, but even more importantly, you should be proud of the fact that you decided to take part—to compete, to showcase your expertise, and to be proud of your profession,” said Päivi Vuorihuhta, Team Leader.

Creative Power at SAKUstars

In the SAKUstars cultural competition, Omnia students excelled in both visual and performing arts. This year’s national theme was “The Freedom of Water.” A large group of students from different study programs participated, bringing home 9 gold, 4 silver, 5 bronze medals, and 20 honorable mentions.

The entries were rich in community spirit and fearless creativity. In the staff category, Elias Saura and Tuomas Leinonen won silver for their impressive video, while Jari Tenhunen earned bronze with his stunning photograph.

The celebration concluded with a rap performance by Ekaterina Rozanova, a SAKUstars gold medalist.
