Omnia’s team has enjoyed success in the competition for several years. This year’s bronze continues their strong medal streak, following silver medals in the previous two years.

“The highlight of the tournament was the tight bronze match, which was only decided in a penalty shootout,” says Mika Karjalainen, a construction teacher who is part of the team’s support staff.

Team spirit and a positive atmosphere behind the success

The Omnia team was coached by Karjalainen and Kim Björkman, a teacher in property services. The encouraging atmosphere they have created has been a key factor in the team’s continued success.

Students can join the team based on recommendations from physical education teachers as well as their own initiative. Many of the players have participated in the tournament for several consecutive years.

SAKU’s sports competitions offer students the opportunity to represent their own institution and experience the joy of team sports in a national event.

“Sports competitions strengthen students’ sense of community and well-being, and bring a refreshing change to everyday school life,” Karjalainen explains.

Team to be formed again next autumn

The 2027 team will begin forming in autumn 2026. The recreational league is open to students who do not play floorball at a licensed competitive level. Students interested in joining the team can contact Mika Karjalainen or Kim Björkman.

Preparatory training sessions will be held before the tournament, and the final team selection will be made based on these sessions.
