MANU – education for immigrant youth (labour policy education)

Labour policy education
The education for immigrant youth (MANU training) is meant for you if you are an immigrant aged 18 to 30 and you have registered as a client of the Employment Services.

The training is suitable for you if your Finnish language proficiency level is between 0 and A2, but you can read and write well in your native language and in the Latin alphabet.

Training description

MANU training is free of charge for you. Students in the training are officially unemployed, which means that you cannot receive a study grant or student discounts, but you may be able to receive general support and expense allowance.

MANU is integration training. It is primarily meant for people who have the right to an integration plan. The school employs two Finnish language teachers, a school social worker and a career counsellor.

Who can study in MANU training?

You can apply for MANU training if

  • you are an immigrant aged 18 to 30
  • you have completed at least basic education, 8–10 years, in your home country
  • your Finnish language proficiency level is between 0 and A2, but you can read and write well in your native language and in the Latin alphabet
  • you have a residence permit or registration certificate of an EU citizen’s right of residence
  • your home municipality, as defined in the Municipality of Residence Act (201/1994), is in Finland
  • you have registered as a client of the Employment Services.

Applicants who live in Espoo or Kauniainen and have the right to an integration plan are given priority in student selection.

Content and objective of the training

In the training, you will study Finnish, study skills, social studies and working life knowledge for a total of 24 hours a week. Attendance in lessons is mandatory.

The aim is to learn, among other things, enough Finnish so that you can apply for further studies or jobs during your training. During the training, we will help you in matters related to studies, working life and integration:

  • The career counsellor can help you find your next study place or job.
  • The school social worker can help you with, for example, financial, family and health matters.
  • All staff will help you to integrate into Finland.

Application for the start of the school year

If you want to apply for the training, you must fill in an application. During the application period, the application is available at www.tyomarkkinatori.fi > Trainings and services. You can search for the training by its name.

Another option is to fill in a paper application at the Employment Services office in your area before the application period ends. The application is binding, which means that you cannot cancel your application without a serious reason.

The next school year will probably be from 7 September 2026 to 11 June 2027.
