Janos Hidvegi had an opportunity to practice for WorldSkills in Taitaja2023 in Espoo.

“I have really enjoyed this competition and its tasks”, Janos Hidvegi says.

Hidvegi is one of the international students, for whom the Finnish Championship for vocational skills Taitaja2023 event serves as a place to practice for WorldSkills competition. This year, WorldSkills will be held in Gdansk, Poland.

Janos Hidvegi works in web development for a Hungarian bank, and his long-term goal is to set up his own company, which specializes in web development. Currently he also runs his own company, which he describes as a side project to his daily job.

Intensive practicing

Hidvegi won last year's national finals in the Hungarian Championship for vocational skills. In Taitaja, his task was to design an admin site for children’s mathematics game.

“We have had a good team throughout the competition. I complete the same tasks for my practice as the local competitors. I and one of the Finnish competitors know each other as he previously came to Hungary to practice”, he explains.

Hidvegi says that he was encouraged to participate in the competition by his previous boss.

“I am currently taking three days of training every week and from July onwards it will become more intense. I have also enjoyed creating and building things, and web development is something which allows you to do it with the use of a laptop only.”

Good experience

Participation in Taitaja2023 Espoo has been Hidvegi’s first time in Finland, and he describes it as an enjoyable experience.

“Anyone who participates in the competition must work together with experts and build a lot of example projects. I would encourage anyone who is interested and willing to do that to become a competitor.”

Hidvegi came to Finland with his expert Zoltan Sisak. Sisak has a long experience in vocational skills competitions and has been working in them since 2007.

“Janos is a very talented competitor, and his mentality is also suitable for competitions”, he says.

Sisak also visited the Finnish competition for the first time.

“Overall experience has been great. There are a lot of similarities with other countries, but in some ways, the Finnish set-up for the skills competition is quite unique”, he says.
