Omnia’s English-language qualifications are a great opportunity to deepen your professional skills and earn a qualification in Finland. For Elisa Prasain, her studies are a fast track toward a career in tourism.
Omnia's student Elisa Prasain

Elisa Prasain moved to Finland from Nepal three years ago and has already completed one qualification in Seinäjoki. But for her, continuing to grow professionally was an obvious choice.

A strong interest in the tourism industry led Elisa to Omnia’s Hotel reception and tourism activity services training, which is a Further vocational qualification in tourism services.

Tourism is an international field where you get to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures.

“Tourism requires a wide range of skills, and I’ll be able to apply both my professional know-how and personal strengths in many ways in my future career. I hope to lead with purpose and inspire others along the way”, Elisa says.

Practical skills and useful knowledge from Omnia

Elisa chose Omnia based on her own research and the recommendations she received. She had only heard good things about Omnia.

“I’ve worked as a gig worker, and it felt like everyone I met in hotels had studied at Omnia”, she laughs.

She values the practical approach of the studies and how directly the skills connect to real work situations.

“I’ve learned about hotel operations and conferences, how to use booking systems, and I’ve completed the alcohol passport (mandatory certification for working with alcohol in Finland) as part of the training.”

The programme also includes excursions and visits: you’ll explore Helsinki on a guided city tour, visit local hotels to learn about day-to-day operations, and even take part in a European study trip – this year to France and Italy.

“The trip to France and Italy is both fun and useful. The entire training programme really covers everything about the tourism industry.”

A great way to get to know Finland and the Helsinki region

Classes take place two days a week, plus an additional day for language studies. Working part-time alongside the studies has been possible for Elisa, which means she’s gaining practical experience all the time.

She also gives special praise to the teachers at Omnia.

“They are true professionals and incredibly supportive.”

Elisa recommends Omnia’s qualification to anyone who wants to gain a formal qualification and study in English.

“It’s all been really fruitful. And if you’ve recently moved to Finland, this is a great way to learn about the country, the Helsinki region, and the workplaces in this industry. You don’t have to worry about anything – Omnia makes sure you get all the support you need for both everyday life and your career.”
