Activity at the Finnish Language Workshop
At the Finnish Language Workshop, you will practise the basics of Finnish and everyday language use, as well as working life and study skills, before moving on to a vocational workshop or other individual future pathways.
You will also get the chance to plan your future, work towards your employment or study goals, and get to know Omnia’s vocational Youth Workshops. The workshop will also bring structure and rhythm to your daily life.
At the Finnish Language Workshop you will:
- Practise Finnish and everyday language use through various written, oral and functional exercises and tasks
- Practise vocabulary related to working life and studies
- Get to know the activities and tasks at vocational workshops
- Meet new people
- Receive support in managing your personal matters
- Make and progress with your own plans for the future
- Develop working life and study skills (e.g. job search and digital skills) as well as life management skills
Information about the workshops
Who are the workshops for?
The Finnish Language Workshop is right for you if:
- You are under 30 years old and live in Espoo, Kauniainen or Kirkkonummi
- You are 18–29 years old and unemployed
- you may be eligible for unemployment benefit during the workshop period
- You are 16–29 years old and a student who wants to complete studies in a workshop environment
- if you are of compulsory education age, you must have a study place before applying to the workshops
- You want to learn Finnish and are motivated to improve your situation
Recommended language proficiency level
- It is recommended that you know Finnish at A1 level
- The language of instruction and work at the workshops is mainly Finnish
- It is important that you are motivated to carry out workshop tasks and to learn Finnish
- You must be able to understand written and spoken instructions, for example those related to safety and working tasks
What happens in the workshops?
In the workshops, you will learn new skills, and abilities which will help you in your future studies and working life. The workshops provide meaningful activities and routine to daily life. You will receive support with making plans for the future and working towards your goals.
You can come to the workshops as you are. Guidance will be provided in the workshops so no prior knowledge is required.
During the workshop, you will
- receive orientation for the workshop tasks
- learn field-specific basic skills
- practise skills needed in working life and studies
- practise working life
- receive support with making plans for the future
- receive support with daily life management.
You can also complete field-specific and common qualification modules in the workshops. At the end of the workshop, you will receive a certificate of your experience.
What happens after the workshop?
The workshop aims to prepare you for employment or further studies.
