Principal’s greeting

The new academic year and autumn term have got off to a busy start at Omnia. Returning to everyday studies means not only learning new things, but also meeting others, working together and having opportunities to influence your own daily life and the community around you.

The beginning of the academic year is a good time to familiarise yourself with Omnia’s rules and shared guidelines, or to refresh your memory if you are a continuing student. A safe and positive everyday environment is built above all through small actions: following shared rules, being considerate of others and simply saying hello. In this way, each of us can help create an atmosphere where everyone can feel comfortable and focus on learning.

The student voice is important to us. The new student executive board elected in September brings students’ perspectives into the development of Omnia. Feedback collected from students and guardians also helps us identify what is working well in everyday life and where there is still room for improvement. Thank you to everyone who participates, shares their views and helps us build an even better Omnia.

Autumn also offers opportunities to look beyond familiar surroundings. An international period abroad can open up new perspectives, strengthen language skills and build confidence in new environments. The call-up information day held in September also reminded us that learning is not only about developing our own skills, but also about understanding society, wellbeing and our shared security.

I wish you all an inspiring autumn, the courage to embrace new opportunities and many experiences of success in your studies and everyday life.

New student executive board elected

At Omnia Student Union’s annual meeting on 8 September 2026, the new members of the student executive board were elected for the coming year. The annual meeting elected a Chair, two Vice-Chairs and a Secretary.

Chair: Mea Villemson (continuing in the role), Electrical Engineering and Automation, Leppävaara

Vice-Chair: Oleksandr Rudenko, Information and Communications Technology, Kirkkonummi

Vice-Chair: Amira Möttö, Restaurant and Catering Services, Lakela

Secretary: Linnea Söderlund, Media, Kirkkokatu

A total of 33 students attended the annual meeting in person, and five students joined via Teams.

Omnia Service Center and library services are returning to their previous premises

The relocation arrangements at Kirkkokatu are progressing, and Omnia Service Center and the library will return to the A wing during September.

How to use the services before they reopen

Library loans and returns
You can return library materials to the red return boxes located near the library. Loans can be renewed in Omnia’s online library (omnia.verkkokirjasto.fi). To log in, you will need your library card number, which is your student number, and your library card PIN code.

Omnia Service Center is currently available in the B wing at Kirkkokatu:

• Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9.00 to 15.00
• Tuesdays from 9.00 to 17.00
• Fridays from 9.00 to 14.00.

You can use the Omnia Service Centre appointment booking service (powerappsportals.com) to book an appointment, for example, for career guidance.

Feedback from guardians

A total of 573 guardians responded to Omnia’s guardian survey conducted in the spring. According to the feedback, guardians are mainly satisfied with the teaching, guidance and support students receive. Around 75% of respondents considered Omnia a safe learning environment and felt that students are treated equally and fairly.

The survey results are used to develop Omnia’s activities. Based on the feedback, we will focus in particular on improving communication between home and Omnia, as well as supporting students’ everyday studies, learning support and career guidance throughout their studies.

Go abroad with an Erasmus+ grant!

Would you like to gain international experience, get work experience abroad and improve your language skills? As an Omnia student, you can take part in an Erasmus+ period abroad and receive a grant towards your travel and living costs.

A period abroad gives you the opportunity to learn in a working environment, experience a new culture and gain valuable experience that can benefit you in your future studies and working life.

Call-ups info day pilot put comprehensive security in the spotlight

The call-ups info day held at Omnia on Friday 4 September 2026 provided young people born in 2009 with information on national defence, liability for military service, comprehensive security, and the impact of physical activity and wellbeing on functional capacity.

Omnia organises vocational education and training in several fields and supports development and innovation activities for working life. Omnia is owned by Espoo, Kauniainen and Kirkkonummi. There are 35 000 students yearly.
