Feedback from guardians helps us develop students’ everyday life at Omnia

The guardian survey conducted in the spring highlighted both Omnia’s strengths and areas for development. Guardians are mainly satisfied with the teaching, guidance and support students receive. The feedback is being used to develop students’ everyday studies and cooperation between home and Omnia.

The views of guardians are important to us, as cooperation between home and Omnia plays an important role in students’ progress, wellbeing and everyday life. Omnia conducts a guardian survey every two years, and this year the survey was carried out in March. It was sent to the guardians of students in vocational education and training, preparatory education, basic education for adults and Espoo Adult Upper Secondary School.

The survey asked for feedback on cooperation and communication between Omnia and home, teaching, guidance and support, as well as matters related to student wellbeing. A total of 573 guardians responded. Of the students whose guardians responded, 77% were studying in vocational education and training, 9% were completing a dual qualification, 9% were in preparatory education for an upper secondary qualification, 4% were in basic education for adults and 2% were studying at Espoo Adult Upper Secondary School. A warm thank you to everyone who responded and shared their valuable feedback.

Most guardians (58%) knew what their young person’s personal competence development plan or personal study plan (HOKS or HOPS) included. According to the survey, half of the guardians had also had an opportunity to contribute to the plan. Based on the feedback, we will focus particularly on improving how we inform guardians about the content and progress of their young person’s studies. Guardians generally knew who to contact when needed and felt that they were able to reach Omnia staff through different communication channels.

Guardians were mainly satisfied with the teaching, study guidance and support their young person received. They were also satisfied with student welfare services. Some guardians were unable to give an opinion on these services, most likely because their young person had not used them. Around 75% of guardians felt that Omnia is a safe learning environment and that students are treated equally and fairly.

According to guardians, 77% of students had not experienced bullying at Omnia. At the same time, 6% had experienced bullying, while 17% of guardians were unable to give an opinion. Every experience of bullying is one too many, and we will continue our determined work to strengthen a safe and respectful learning environment.

The results of the guardian survey provide us with important information and feedback. Detailed feedback will be reviewed across Omnia’s locations, forms of education and qualifications. We use the feedback to develop our activities and further strengthen cooperation between home and Omnia.

Taking into account the feedback received from guardians and students, we are introducing several improvements this autumn to support students’ everyday studies and progress. These include more consistent and predictable school weeks, ensuring access to learning support and providing career guidance throughout the entire study period.

During autumn 2026, we have organised themed information sessions and parents’ evenings for guardians. We are pleased that so many of you have taken part and joined us in discussing studying at Omnia. We hope that guardians will continue to contact Omnia staff whenever they have questions or concerns about their young person’s studies, wellbeing or everyday life.

You can find the contact details of your young person’s responsible teacher in Wilma. They should be your first point of contact for matters related to studies. You can also find the names of our education managers on our contact details page. You can also contact them about matters related to your young person’s studies.

With thanks for your cooperation,
