Student newsletter Omnis 2/2024

Newsletter | 20.03.2024
Omnis brings our students the most important news and events each month. Solutions. Together. For all.

Dear students,

Winter is receding and the days are getting longer, spring is in the air. For many of you, it is now topical to focus on matriculation examinations, demonstrations of professional competence or other final tests of education. The competence acquired during the studies is converted into grades and final certificates.

Spring is also a time for new plans. Until 20.3.2024, it is still possible to apply for Omnia's vocational upper secondary qualifications and TUVA education in the joint application process. After that, joint applications for universities of applied sciences will open.

This week, Omnia hosts an equality week, and there are a number of events for students available on our campuses. Please join the events at a suitable time.

I wish everyone a very good equality week.

Maija Aaltola, Head Principal

Omnia's student board members participated in the discussion with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo

In February, Vili Olkkonen, Chair of the Student Board and Arabell Rand, Secretary, met Prime Minister Petteri Orpo at an event where young people and the Prime Minister discussed themes related to the wellbeing and safety of young people.

Representatives of Omnia's student board were present along with six other young people. The discussion took place in the Prime Minister's office at the Government Palace and invited young people from various backgrounds. The environment, safety and especially the mental health and well-being of young people were on the agenda.

"It was a fairly informal coffee table conversation where we were representatives of vocational education. The participants included eighth and ninth graders from comprehensive school, general upper secondary school students and a young person in working life," Olkkonen and Rand explain.

"Prime Minister Orpo asked young people how the mental health crisis is reflected in their everyday lives. We talked a lot about bullying and racism, about which everyone shared a concern. During the debate, we exchanged ideas on these issues. We were left with the feeling that there is a will to find solutions to problems."

During the two-hour event, the young people also visited the office building and then gathered to discuss with the Prime Minister.

"It was definitely worth participating in the event and sharing common concerns and thoughts. When the Prime Minister calls ordinary people to be heard, the discussions come from a different perspective than they would otherwise. Petteri Orpo shared the same concerns with young people and wanted to hear what we have to say," says Vili Olkkonen.
